1. Minutes for 2-12-2019 were read and approved.
a. Old Business
i. Earth Day—Fern updated us on the items she had purchased for Earth Day and some
would be reused for Field Day. Seed packets, honey straws, a hive filled with bee facts, I
found the queen stickers. Kris Liddle updated that she had secured items for Earth/Field
Day. Fern took those items to sort. We will use some of the items for the raffle.
ii. Field Day—there was a huge discussion about Field Day because at this time only one
person had signed up for the Field Day on April 27th. The head of the Field Day didn’t
want to waste the clubs time if it wasn’t going to make the club any money. It was
mentioned that if 10 people signed up, we would break even. Other members thought
Field Day, which is the clubs largest money maker of the year, should actually be an
“educational event”. The club voted to have the event if 10 people had signed up by the
evening of Earth Day on April 20th.
iii. Business Cards—have been purchased.
iv. Lifetime Club Members—are Bert Gwaltney, Lawerence Cutts, and Reno Plenge
v. Dues—Annual Dues are due this month. Many people paid.
vi. A long list of what’s blooming was discussed. I couldn’t get all mentioned.
b. New Business
i. 4th of July Picnic—a brief discussion was had about when to have the picnic. The club
normally chooses to have this even on a Saturday; however, since we don’t have a
member that can currently host the event, we will have to have to picnic at the church
on Tuesday evening. July 9th at 6 pm
ii. Club Directory—Fern has updated our website and added a club directory. She
explained the directory to the members, what it was for and how to use it.
iii. Group Presentation—A presentation on his life with bees was presented by
Gordon Clauss. He said there are so many avenues with bees you can pursue from
queen rearing to honey, to inventions as he has done. He brought all his badges to
show all of the shows he has been too and it was interesting.
